Packing and loading a truck for moving are two of the most difficult and time consuming parts of a move. In order to reduce the stress and time put into these two parts of a move, you need to be ready in advance. A major part of preparation should be to know what you can, and what you cannot, pack and transport in a moving truck. To help you, the professionals have come up with this list. While some of these things may seem safe to transport, consider the temperatures inside a moving truck rental in the summer. As temperatures rise to lethal levels, chemicals of all kinds can easily explode or damage other things in the truck.
• Alcoholic Beverages – While the main danger of transporting these things in the moving truck is obvious – drinking and driving – there are other, secondary issues as well. One example is the fact that it is flammable.
• Matches and lighters – These items might seem relatively safe, but they can explode when subjected to the heat and rising temperatures of the moving truck.
• Cleaners, bleach, and other detergents – These chemicals can change and expand when heated, causing leakage, explosions, and deadly fumes.
• Aerosol cans – These cans can also explode when they are heated.
• Gases and acids – Highly flammable fluids can easily combust in the rear of a moving truck if it gets hot enough, causing fire and possible explosions.
• Paint, primer, and paint remover – Again, highly flammable substances should never be subjected to the heat of the inside of a truck rental while in transit. It can combust on the road and cause fire and accidents.
• Flares – The reason for this is obvious, no fire creating materials should be stored in the same area as paper, boxes, and other flammable objects. It would not take much for the entire rear of a truck to go up in flames.
• Propane and propane tanks – Highly pressurized and flammable contents which can explode if they are heated enough.
• Ammunition and fireworks – Because these items are made to explode, they are extremely dangerous in high heat areas. If they were heated enough to ignite the effect, then anyone in the vicinity could suffer the consequences.
While this is not a complete list of things, it does cover the basics. It is also important to know that batteries are not permitted on rentals that are travelling long distances. Keep this in mind and remove these substances from your home before the packing begins. Place batteries or other items that you need for the time being in another container that will not mistakenly be packed. Remember, if you pack hazardous materials and something bad happens, you will be held liable for all costs and damage.
