Car Shipping

All About Car Shipping

You can ship anything these days. When you move, or when you buy something, there is a chance that it will be shipped to you. Now you can ship a vehicle in the same manner. Did you think that you could have a car shipped right to your doorstep? This is a rather new industry in business today, but there are many different companies that transport vehicles daily.

Basics of Shipping Vehicles

It isn't hard to understand the basic idea of car shipping. You need to choose a company and prepare your car, truck, or other vehicle. Usually, you will need a pre-shipping inspection before you will be allowed to load the car on a transport truck. Make sure that you take anything extra off of and out of the vehicle as well.

When you are ready, the company that you chose to use will send a large truck to your home. This is called a car carrier. While some companies may give you a set date on which to expect them, plan on some leeway just in case the carrier is running behind. Once they arrive, they will check out your vehicle and load it onto the truck.

Once you are at your new home, be prepared for the carrier to show up anytime between the dates that they have given you. You need to sign paperwork in order to recieve your vehicle, so you have to make sure that you are around when the carrier shows up. Be sure to do an inspection walkaround to make sure that there is no noticable damage.

How do I Find the Best Company?

There are lots of different companies to choose from when it comes to car shipping. You need to take your own preferences into account when choosing one company over another. Do a little research in order to see the track record of any given company. Check the Better Business Bureau to see if the company you are thinking about has any negative record.

You can also check with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. This organization can help you learn about the legal requirements that car shippers must follow. They can also provide some legal counsel and dispute resolution services if you should end up needing them.

Knowing what to expect before you choose a company will help you out greatly. You should always be well aware of your rights before you pay a company to transport your vehicle. There are plenty of choices out there, so be sure to look into more than just one or two before you make your final choice.
