Before Choosing a Truck Rental Move

If you're tight on money, a do-it-yourself or truck rental move sounds like the best bet.  But before you rush into to this type of move solely because of the huge cost savings, there are few points to consider; otherwise, you might make it easier on your wallet but hard on you in other ways.

The size and weight of your furniture

If you own a lot of heavy and oversized furniture, it might be tough to load into the truck rental vehicle.  It would really depend upon the number of volunteers that you can round up to assist you with the lifting (and unloading) of the furniture.  For instance, if you own an oversized, heavy couch, decide if you want to even try to lift it out of your house.  The same goes for a heavy dining room or kitchen table.  Here, at least, you might be able to dissemble the table before moving it. 

The size and configuration of your old and new places

Before finalizing your decision to choose a do-it-yourself or truck rental move, evaluate the ease of moving your belongings in and out of your old and new residence.  Let's say, for example, that you live on the third story of an apartment building that has a small elevator.  Getting your sofa in the elevator is a non-starter and carrying down three flights of stairs is more than you care to consider.  In this scenario, a truck rental move might not be an option. Or if your doorways are narrow, it might be tricky to maneuver the bulky items outside unless you have a professional to assist with the move. 

Delicate or antique objects

If you own a lot of delicate or antique objects, you might want to have the professionals pack up these items and load them into the truck rental vehicle.  Just imagine if you were to improperly pack up an expensive antique lamp and you broke it while loading it into the truck rental.  It could practically cancel the savings that you were counting on from choosing a truck rental move.
