Picking the right truck rental takes time and research. Go online, skim the yellow pages or ask friends about truck they've rented for a move.
Renting a truck for your move is much more than simply calling up the neighborhood truck rental company and asking for the newest and biggest truck. If done correctly, it takes time and research to rent the best truck for your needs. Here are some tips to help you make the decision as to which truck to rent.
Go online
Just like everything else in today's automated market, the Internet is a great resource in helping you choose the right truck rental. Most truck rental companies list their truck features and dimensions (for the different size moves) on their website so that you have a better visual picture of the trucks. For instance, if you're moving a three-bedroom house, it will probably be best to rent a 16-foot truck. If moving a five-bedroom house, you'll need to rent a 24-footer, even if the price is a bit higher.
Yellow pages
If you prefer the old-fashioned way, skim through the local yellow pages and search for truck rental companies. Choose at least three or four companies and ask what size trucks they offer and at what prices.
Ask around
If you have friends or family who've recently rented a truck for their move, find out what size trucks they rented and if they had a good experience. And if they have any personal recommendations for a truck rental company, take names and phone numbers and follow-up with phone calls.
Price compare
Don't go with the first truck rental company that offers you a bid. Though it might be a good price, it's best to price compare. Choose at least three or four different rental companies and compare prices and trucks, and then make that decision. You might want to factor in a company's overall customer service and reputation in the community, as well as the overall condition and dependability of their fleet.
Physically inspect the trucks
If possible, visit the rental lots so that you can see first hand your truck rental options. Find out up to what size truck you feel comfortable driving. Some companies might even let you test drive one so that you feel more comfortable on the day of the move.
