Pay attention to the weather
No matter how well you pack your plants, if it's extremely hot outside, they might suffer, especially in a hot, closed truck rental vehicle. If you're concerned that your plants won't make during transport, consider taking the plants with you in your car or in the front seat of the truck rental. The same holds true in extremely cold weather.
Pay attention to the darkness
If you're moving cross country or for more than a couple days time, either keep the plants up front with you or bring them in your private car. That's because the truck rental vehicle is extremely dark inside and if it's a sensitive plant, it might not last that long is such a dark environment. If you have no other choice but to put them in the truck's rear compartment, try to make frequent stops along the way and keep the back door open as much as possible.
Packing up the plant
For smaller plants, simply place bubble wrap around the plant and scotch tape it to the sides of the pot. Next, place the plant in a small box and place packing paper around it to secure it in place. Close the lids and label, "plant" and "top load only." For bigger plants, place them in boxes with the top part of the plant sticking out. Load these bigger plants last into the truck rental vehicle.
