Completing an inventory check after unloading your truck rental is extremely important. Find out the best way to complete this check to ensure all of your belongings are accounted for.
If you've planned your move right, you'll have a completed inventory control sheet in hand even before you load your truck rental vehicle. It should include a listing of all of your boxes (by number) and furniture that you plan to load into the truck rental and then unload once you arrive in your new place. But what's the best system to check to make sure that you've unloaded all of your belongings from the truck rental? Here's one system that's a sure bet.
Position someone at the front door
Similar to what full-service moving agencies normally do, position someone at the entrance of your place so that no box enters your home without being checked off on the inventory sheet. If you don't take this seemingly simple step, you might not be able to account for all the boxes, even though a box might already be sitting in your living room. Just imagine the panic that could be caused from a missing box, especially if it contained valuable items. Only when you've accounted for all the boxes should you place them in their specific areas.
If you don't have someone to help you
If you happen to be moving all of your belongings by yourself, you'll have to take extra precaution when unloading the truck rental. Here's what you can do. After you've unloaded the truck rental, place all the boxes within one area of your house, which would ideally be the front room of the house. Then, with pen in hand, you should go around and check off all the boxes in the room. Only then should you place the boxes in their appropriate rooms.
What if you're missing a box?
In most cases, you'll be able to account for every box on the inventory sheet. But what happens when one box on the sheet is unaccounted for? If you have a crew of volunteers helping you with your truck rental move, ask them if they inadvertently placed the box in the house without having it checked off the inventory list. If that's not the case, you'll have to double-check the boxes against the list to see if you've missed something. The same would hold true if you're moving your belongings by yourself.
