Loading and unloading a truck rental can be difficult. Read our tips that will help make this portion of the move as easy as possible.
Though a truck rental move can certainly save you money when compared to a more traditional full-service move, it can be difficult when it comes to loading and unloading your truck rental vehicle. However, with a little planning and some valuable tips, loading and unloading the vehicle does not have to a back-breaking experience.
Commandeer the troops
Unlike a full-service move where the moving team handles the bulk of the move, you'll be on your own with a truck rental move. But even though you don't have that team of professionals on your side, it doesn't mean that you have to go it alone. Ask friends and family members if they can help with the loading and unloading on moving day. If you're moving a three-bedroom house, you shouldn't need more than five or six volunteers. Or if you're moving from your parent's house or from university, you'll only need two or three other people to make the job go smoothly.
If you can't find enough volunteers for your truck rental move, put an ad in the paper for "temporary movers." Though it will cost you, it will still be a lot cheaper than hiring a moving company.
Don't over pack the boxes
If you don't want your boxes breaking as you lift them into the truck rental, make sure not to over pack. In other words, don't put all of the heavy items in one box; arrange it so that you have a combination of heavier items with lighter weight items.
Buy quality boxes
But even if you pack correctly, you might still have a problem with boxes opening up if you don't use quality, heavy-duty boxes. As your truck rental company about their boxes or visit some of the local hardware stores.
Proper lifting techniques
Lifting boxes can cause stress on your back during your truck rental move if you're not using proper body mechanics. Bend with your knees before lifting up or box or before putting a box down. And don't try to be superman. Carry one box at a time, no matter how light it might seem. After all, you don't want to break anything during your truck rental move.
