Minimizing the One-Way Truck Rental Fee

abstract:

If you're renting a one-way truck rental, there are ways to minimize that one-way rental fee.  Search the web for the lowest fees and look for the best deals and coupons.

With a one-way truck rental, you're more than likely going to pay an added fee for that "one-way convenience.  After all, if you're moving long-distance, you might not have that extra time to drive the truck rental back to the original location.  So if that's case, how can you limit the amount of that extra one-way fee as much as possible?  Find out below when you read our tips for reducing extra fees.

Do your homework

With so many truck rental companies vying for your business, it makes sense to see who has the least costly one-way charges.  Conduct a search online for truck rental companies or even use one of the many online truck rental search directories that can compare rental prices and extra fees for you.  Some companies might not even charge a one-way rental fee if they have several branches throughout the area.  If that's the case, try to find a company that has a branch in your new location and research any fees that might apply.

Look for the deals

If you're seriously considering a one-way move, scan the truck rental's website or ads in the paper for special coupon codes and offers.  These one-way offers might be listed in the fine print, so make sure to read all the information.  Savings can amount to up to $30 or more off a one-way rental charge.

Negotiate the base-rate

Some rental companies hide these one-way fees by charging a higher base rate fee.  For instance, a normal rental that has the same pick-up and drop-off point might cost $200 while a rental with a different drop-off point might cost as much as $400.  They might advertise a "no added charge" for the different drop-off point, but in essence, it is an additional fee.  See if you can negotiate the "base-rate" down.  Another tactic might be to call the drop-off location and see if they are need of the specific truck rental that you plan to rent.  If so, the rental company might agree to waive or at least reduce any one-way fees.
