Packing up a truck rental is much more than just loading up the boxes any haphazard way. Read our tips that will tell you the most systematic way to pack up your rental truck.
If you plan to rent a truck rental for your next move, there are a few things you should be aware before you start packing up the truck. After all, packing up a truck rental that can be as large as a 24-foot vehicle can be tougher than you think if you don't plan properly.
Pack back to front
When starting to pack up your truck rental, you should start from the back of the truck and work your way forward. And when you pack, make sure to pack all the way up to the top of the truck, line by line. You would be surprised how much more boxes you can pack in one truck if you fill up the space as tightly to the top as possible.
Packing large items
If you're packing your big living room couch, pack up in the truck rental after you've packed all of your boxes. And when you do finally pack up your sofa, stand it up on its end so that it takes up as little space as possible. When packing mattresses and box springs, stand them up vertically so that it lays head to foot (or reverse). Just make sure to place heavy boxes or appliances against the mattresses and box springs so that they don't fall. If packing a kitchen table, dining room table, coffee tables or bookcases, try to dissemble as much as possible prior to packing up the truck rental. It can save you a lot of space, which can be used for other items.
Filling in the gaps
One trick that packers often use is to utilize as much of the wasted or empty space as possible. That basically means that you can pack boxes or other items in the refrigerator, washing machine, dressers, and bottoms of wardrobe boxes. You'll be in awe how much more you can fit into your truck rental with this simple technique.
Breakables
If you're shipping fragile items or precious family heirlooms, wrap them up carefully in either bubble wrap or blanket pads before placing them into the truck. Try to also position them so that they don't move around in the truck, especially if you have to travel more than a few miles.
