Packing up for your Truck Rental Move

abstract:

Packing for a truck rental move can be an overwhelming experience.  Read our packing tips that can help ease this trying period.

Unless you choose the more expensive full-service moving company option, you'll be responsible for packing up your belongings for your do-it-yourself or truck rental move.  Though it might seem like tedious work, you'll be happy at the end of the day when your truck rental bill is much less than a full-service move.  In fact, you can save up to thousands of dollars on a do-it-yourself or truck rental move.  But to do it right, you'll need a methodology or system to your packing madness.  Here are some tips that can help you have the smoothest packing experience and truck rental move possible.

Order quality boxes

The packing process starts even before you pack the first piece of clothing.  With a truck rental move, you'll need to buy quality, heavy-duty boxes from a moving company or hardware store.  Make sure to purchase a selection of sizes, from small size to large size, plus wardrobe boxes for clothes and dish pack boxes for dishes.  Your truck rental company probably sells a wide selection of moving boxes.  If you're on a tight budget, consider asking friends or family members for their old moving boxes.

Don't forget about the supplies

Equally important is the purchase of strong packing tape so that your boxes don't open midway during the trip.  Other items to buy or to borrow include bubble-wrap paper, moving pads and moving blankets.

Pack one room at a time

Just don't start haphazardly packing throughout your house; designate a room to pack, finish, and then move on to the next area.  However, don't pack up the essentials until the week before the move.  For instance, leave a set of dishes, basic toiletries and a week's set of clothing.  And keep all your valuables in as few different boxes as possible and set them in a specific area within your house.  The last thing you want to do be doing before hopping in your truck rental vehicle is to madly search for your valuable items.

Marking the boxes

As you pack up each box, mark on the outside as to which room the box should be placed into.  For example, if you're packing up your living room box collection, mark on the box, "living room books."  Even color-code the boxes as per specific room locations.  These simple tricks can really help organize your truck rental move.
