Planning your Truck Rental Move

abstract:

Proper preparation is vital when planning a truck rental move.  Find out about different truck sizes and features and how far in advance that you'll need to reserve a truck.

Moving is a huge undertaking.  It's not something that can be planned at the last minute.  If done right, the planning process can start months before the actual move.  It can include such variables as buying the right packing supplies (i.e. boxes, tape, bubble wrap, pads, blankets), coordinating your vacation schedules and deciding if you're going to use a full-service mover or move your belongings by yourself through a truck rental.  If choosing the later, you'll need to some homework before settling upon a final moving date.

Size of truck to rent

Simply saying that you want to book a truck rental for your move is not enough.  Trucks come in a variety of sizes and you want to make sure you rent the right truck rental for your needs.  For example, if you only need to move one to two rooms of furniture and boxes, choose a 10-foot truck.  If moving three to four rooms, you're better off with a 16-foot truck rental.  And if you're moving five or more rooms, it's best to rent a 24-foot truck, even if the expense would be higher.  After all, you want to make sure that your belongings fit safely and securely in the right size truck.

Truck features

If you don't know how to drive a stick shift, it goes without saying that you'll want to rent an automatic transmission.  If you plan to move in the summer, you'll definitely need air-conditioning.  You're truck rental should also come with dual faced mirrors so that it will be easier for you to monitor others on the road.  And more than likely, you'll want a truck rental that comes with power steering and power brakes.

Reserving your truck

Once you decide on the truck size and features you need, book a reservation.  If you wait to the last minute, you might find yourself with a packed house, without a way to move your belongings.  Reserve a truck at least a month in advance before you plan to move.  And if you plan to move on the weekends, you might need to make that reservation even more than a month in advance, especially during the busy summer months when the majority of people schedule a move.
