Preparing for your truck rental pack-up is key to a successful move. Read our tips for properly preparing for the move.
Packing up your truck rental takes a lot of hard work. Lifting the boxes and ensuring everything is packed properly into the truck rental takes a long time and a lot of physical work. That doesn't even take into consideration the time and planning it takes to actually pack up the boxes before you load up your truck rental. There is a way to make at least that part of the job easier on you. Here's how.
Don't leave the packing for the last minute
If you're one to procrastinate, break the habit when planning a move. Start packing your belongings about four weeks prior to your move. Pack those items that you will not need in the interim, such as a second set of dishes or clothes that are not in season. Continue packing a bit every week, and only leave the essentials unpacked for the last minute (i.e. toiletries, a week's worth of clothes and a few linens). That way, you won't be overwhelmed when you need to load everything into the truck rental in one day.
Color code your boxes
All of your boxes should be color coded with a sticker, with each room having its own colored sticker. For instance, place a purple sticker on all of your kitchen boxes, a green sticker on all of your master bedroom boxes and a gold sticker on all of your toiletry boxes. That way, when you unload your truck rental you'll know where to place the boxes much quicker.
Have the right supplies on hand
Even your best plans can get derailed if you don't have the right packing supplies. Search the web for companies that you can purchase heavy-duty boxes, bubble-wrap and moving pads or blankets. And rent a few dollies (with straps) for your truck rental move. It will certainly make the move go faster and cause less strain on your back. You can rent these dollies (and flatbeds) from most truck rental companies.
Volunteers on call
Don't wait to the last minute to round up a crew of volunteers. Assign some for the actual packing and others for the loading of the truck. After all, no one said you had to pack up your house by yourself.
