Packing right is vital for a smooth truck rental move. Always pack to the brim, mix heavier and lighter weight objects and properly secure all flaps and seams with proper masking tape.
If you think that the most crucial aspect of moving is loading and unloading your boxes in a timely and orderly fashion for a truck rental move, you're mistaken. The most crucial part of a truck rental is packing. If you don't pack properly, you can easily break your belongings during transport. To help you with this part of the move, we've listed some main packing principles that can hopefully get you through this part of the truck rental with flying colors.
Mix heavy items with light items
If you don't want your boxes to suddenly break while loading or unloading them into your truck rental, keep an eye on the weight. Try to mix heavier items with lighter ones so that the boxes are not overly heavy. For instance, mix some of your books with CDs and some of your heavier dishes with lighter weight ones.
Pack to the brim
Pack all of your boxes to the top. That will prevent any caving in when you place boxes on top of one another. And if you're worried about breakables in a box, either pack them towards the middle of the box or don't place a lot of boxes on top in the truck rental vehicle. An added benefit to packing to the brim is that you'll save space in the truck, as you'll need fewer boxes for your move.
Properly secure the boxes
If you don't want your belongings to fall out during the ride, properly secure the boxes by taping up the flaps on top and along any seams (i.e. bottom of box). And use quality tape, as anything less can spell disaster. If it's a really heavy box or filled with valuables, double or even triple the flaps and seams for added protection during the truck rental ride. If you're really worried about some particularly fragile or priceless items, you might want to pack them in a small plastic container so that it can handle the rough movement during the drive. Or you can decide to place a box full of your most fragile or priceless items in the front seat of the truck so that you can keep an eye on it all times.
