Family reasons are one of the top reasons for truck rental and other types of moves. Specific family reasons include change in marital status and the establishment of households.
Hundreds of thousands of people move each year throughout the country, through either a truck rental move, full-service move or by packing up their belongings in their car. In fact, for many people in the States, moving from place to place is an expected part of life. And when looking at the reasons for truck rental or full-service moves or any other types of moves, family reasons stand out as one of the top reasons for moving as per figures reported by the U.S. Census Bureau. Here are some specific reasons for these types of family moves.
Change in marital status
Out of a total of 26% of respondents who noted "family" as the reason for a truck rental, full-service move or any other type of move, 7% stated the move was due to the change in marital status. In other words, people moved for the reason of getting married, getting divorced or even becoming widowed. Though not specifically stated, those who were not officially married but were moving in with each other would also probably be included in this group.
Establish own household
This group, which consisted of 7.4% of those who moved due to family reasons, moved specifically to establish their own household. This would include those people who moved out of their parent's homes to set up their own place, either by using a truck rental or full-service move or if they owned a small amount of belongings, by packing up their stuff in their car.
Other family reasons for a truck rental or other type of move
The highest percentage of respondents in this group (11.5%) mentioned that they moved due to other family reasons. Those family reasons might have included some of the following: family disagreements (child moving out due to friction with parents or siblings): older parents moving out of their kid's home due to lack of space; children moving in with their other parent in a divorce situation; or a grown-up child moving in with their older parent, either to save money or because their parent isn't safe living alone any longer.
