Renting the Right Size Truck Rental

abstract:

With so many different sized truck rentals, how do you know which truck to rent?  Read our tips that will tell you what size makes sense for your move.

If you're new to a do-it-yourself move, you'll have to carefully plan all the details of the move from beginning to end; otherwise, you might find yourself overwhelmed on the day of the move.  One area that especially demands planning is the renting of the truck rental.  If you rent the wrong size truck rental for your job, you'll create havoc with the move.  You might even have to schedule the move in two different shifts if the truck is too small for one trip.  That could be logistically impossible if it's a long distance move.  To prevent this heartache from occurring, follow our tips on how to best pick the truck rental vehicle for your needs.

Size of house/apartment

When choosing a truck rental, don't just pick the biggest truck available.  Not only can it be more trouble to drive and park, but also you might end up wasting money on a more expensive vehicle.  Listed below is a general guide as to which size will meet your needs the best.

10-foot truck rental - If you're a student or moving from your parent's house for the first time and have more belongings that can fit in a van, this is the vehicle for you.  It's also suitable if you are moving from a studio apartment.  This size vehicle is the least expensive.

14-foot truck rental - Next in size comes the 14-footer.  Still compact enough to drive without any difficulties, this size truck rental provides enough space to move a one-bedroom apartment or even a smaller two-bedroom place if you have a normal amount of belongings.

17-foot truck - With three extra feet of space you'll be able to fit enough items that fit a typical two bedroom place or even a smaller three-bedroom apartment/house.  But if your three-bedroom apartment is filled with lots of other furniture that currently fit in your living room and dining room, you might have to consider the next size up.

24-foot truck - Though a few companies might carry a 26-footer, the 24-foot truck is big enough for most moves (besides the occasional mansion).  In other words, a 24-foot truck rental would be adequate for up to a six-bedroom move.
