Standardization of Truck Rental Prices

abstract:

When choosing a truck rental service directory, make sure it utilizes standardization of prices.  Otherwise, you might end up renting the most expensive vehicle.

Using a truck rental service directory can be very beneficial when searching for the best vehicle for your move.  But with so many search directories on the market, how do you know which one provides a good versus an adequate comparison of different truck rental companies?  You should choose a search directory that requires standardized reporting of prices for each and every company that's listed in the directory.  But what is "standardized pricing?"  Standardized pricing, as its name suggests, reports pricing based on the same variables so that you can get a clear and correct picture of the different price quotes.  After all, it makes no sense to compare one truck rental company that offers a $25 per day rate that includes unlimited mileage with another company that charges the same rate but with limited mileage.

Here are some variables that can greatly affect or change the final daily rate.

Midweek versus weekend prices - Midweek prices tend to be lower than weekend prices.

High season versus low season - During high season, prices are often increased.

Insurance charges - Daily insurance charges can be as high as $30 extra per day, depending upon the type of insurance coverage on the truck rental.  Different insurance coverage includes Limited Damage Waiver insurance, Supplemental Liability Insurance and cargo insurance.

Age parameters - Drivers under 25 will pay a higher daily rate than what's usually advertised.

Additional drivers - There is an extra daily fee for additional drivers.

Refueling charges - Different refueling charges may apply if returning the truck rental with less than a full tank of gas.

Mileage parameters - Some truck rentals include unlimited mileage while others charge a certain rate above a certain mileage.

One-way truck rental fees - Some companies charge a return trip fee for one-way rentals while other companies don't.

Cost recovery fees - Companies charge different fees for cost recovery, which refers to the amount that's charged to offset the original purchase of the vehicles.

Environmental fees - Companies also charge different daily fees to properly dispose of harmful materials.

So before comparing prices, make sure that you're actually comparing rates based on the same parameters; otherwise, you'll be in for a big surprise when signed up for your rental truck.
