Going through and removing some of your belongings before a truck rental move can save you money. Read our suggestions that can help you save money.
The more boxes you have to pack up and move, the more expensive your truck rental move will be. That's because the bigger the truck rental that you rent, the more expensive it becomes. For instance, a 10-foot truck can carry up to almost 400 cubic feet, a 16-footer up to 800 cubic feet and a 24-foot truck rental up to almost 1400 cubic feet. So if money is a concern, it's smart to limit the number of boxes that you'll need to move. To keep things to a bare minimum, we've listed some tips or suggestions that can be helpful before you start packing up your belongings.
Clothes
If you're like most people, you probably have a whole wardrobe that you haven't worn in years. In fact, most people only wear about 20% of their total wardrobe. And a lot of clothing is bulky and takes up a huge amount of space when packing, such as old coats and sweaters. Take a few days to go through your wardrobe and remove what you don't really wear anymore and give it away to a local charity. And if you're packing up your kids' closets for your truck rental move, you're bound to find clothes that no longer fit.
Books
Books are great, but they're very heavy and can be quite bulky to move. Go through your books and see what you've read and what you can toss out or give to friends. Just remember that you can resume buying books for your book collection once you move into your new place. And if you still have those heavy textbooks from college, don't pack them up onto your truck rental unless you really intend to use them again.
Food
A few days before your truck rental move, go through your refrigerator and toss what you really don't need and those items that are perishable, like vegetables, dairy products, fish and meat. Even if you're moving a short distance, it's easier to buy new perishables since the actual packing up and moving does take a long time and the food could spoil in the meantime, plus there's no reason to take up more space in your truck rental.
