It's important to properly load up a truck rental. Find the best way to load up your truck so that you can maximize the space.
Loading up a van or station wagon for a trip is one thing, but loading up a truck rental for a do-it-yourself move is another story. If you've never loaded up a truck before, you'll need to read our tips to help you maximize the space in the truck and keep your belongings safe during the actual move.
Boxes first
Load all the boxes into the truck rental first. Start with the biggest boxes and work your way down, creating a tight wall so that you complete each line from the bottom of the truck to the ceiling before moving on to the next line. Fill any spaces with small boxes or items so that you can maximize the truck rental's space.
Furniture and carpets
Once all of your boxes have been loaded up into the truck rental, start packing up your furniture. However, before you actually place these items into the truck rental, try to dissemble as much as the furniture as possible. For instance if you have a large and heavy coffee table, unscrew the legs from the table so that it will take up less space in the truck. The same goes for any tables or bed frames that can be dissembled. In addition, tape or tie up cabinet and dresser draws so that the items won't fly out during transit. Now, when you're ready to place furniture into the truck, place it along the sides of the vehicle.
Carpets should be rolled up and tied securely with a rope and then placed alongside the furniture.
Bikes
If you're packing up bikes, remove the front wheels so that the bike won't move around during the move. Place them along the furniture but first wrap them up in protective material so that they don't scratch any items.
Appliances
Next, load up the truck rental with any appliances that you might have (i.e. refrigerator, washer and dryer, stove) and place them against the furniture so that these items won't move during transport. If you're short for space, you can even place items into the appliances. Just make sure to rope up the doors to secure the items during the actual move.
