Certain precautions should be taken during winter for a truck rental move. Find out what these easy to implement precautions are.
Most truck rental moves occur in the high season, from mid-May to early September. But if you need to move during other times of the year such as in the dead of winter, don't be alarmed. A truck rental move during this time of year can be just as successful if you take the following precautions.
Park truck rental underground or as close as possible
If living in an apartment with underground parking, loading the truck won't be a problem. The only difficulty might arise if your apartment complex has outdoor hallways where the rain or snow can enter. In that case, you'll have to cover your boxes with plastic or sheets when you take them down to the parking garage. If living in a home, park the truck rental as close as possible to your front door to limit the impact of any rain or snow hitting the boxes. The same thing holds true when unloading your boxes into your new home.
If there's snow, keep the driveway or path clear
If it's snowing on the day before or the actual day of the truck rental move, keep the driveway/pathways clear. The last thing you want to happen is to have your truck completely loaded with your belongings, but snowed in.
Listen to the weather report
If you live in a region where snowstorms of floods are common, stay tuned to the weather station for any weather reports. If there's an expected storm or other inclement weather heading your way on your move date, you might want to consider postponing your move a few days. Just check with your truck rental company if there are any penalties for changing your rental period.
Drive extra careful
Driving a truck in inclement weather can be a bit tricky, especially if you have no prior experience driving a truck. Drive extra slow and make sure to utilize your mirrors at all times. Listen to weather reports while driving the vehicle if you're driving during a storm.
Protect your house/apartment
If it's raining or snowing outside, you'll need to place a plastic or paper runner over any carpet or nice hardwood floors to avoid any mess.
