With a truck rental move, there are different types of carriers that you can use. Choose a car trailer, car dolly, ramp trailer or motorcycle trailer.
When choosing a do-it-yourself or truck rental move, you'll probably have to rent a car carrier to transport your vehicle if you're moving long distance. But if you never used a car carrier before for a truck rental move, you probably don't know what type of carrier to rent. And if you need to transport bulky items or even a motorcycle, there are specialty carriers to transport those types of items as well. Listed below are descriptions of some of the different types of carriers.
Car trailer
The car trailer, or simply termed as a generic "car carrier," is the most popular type of carrier for long-distance moves (over 100 miles or so). That's because it allows the car to sit firmly on the trailer and off the ground. Its low height is ideal for easy loading and its ramps (along with the use of its multiple tire straps and safety chains) provide the ultimate security for your vehicle transport during your truck rental move.
Car dolly
This type of carrier is most often used for shorter distance truck rental moves. It's also cheaper to rent if you're looking to save money on your move. With this type of carrier, only the front wheels are placed onto the carrier. It's also a good choice if your vehicle has a low underbelly clearance since it would be easier to load onto the ramp, as well as unload from the ramp. And if you're worried about rear tire wear and tear, especially for a longer move, choose a car dolly that comes equipped with a convenient swivel design that more evenly creates rear tire usage.
Ramp trailer
If your truck rental vehicle is packed to the brim, consider the option of renting a ramp trailer. These convenient trailers can easily carry bulkier items such as bikes, lawn mowers or storage units, which would free up much needed space in the truck rental. These trailers can usually accommodate up to 1600 pounds of cargo.
Motorcycle trailer
If you own a motorcycle, you might want to consider renting a motorcycle trailer for your move. These types of trailers are simple to tow and securely lock your motorcycle in place, even for those long-distance moves.
