Packing up your truck rental is really not difficult if you do the smart way. Follow our helpful tips to help you best pack up the truck, and save money at the same time.
If you're using a full-service moving company, your movers will usually pack of up your belongings. The only thing that you need to concern yourself with is purchasing the packing supplies, and even that can be streamlined by simply buying the boxes from the moving company. But if choosing a do-it-yourself or truck rental move, you'll be involved in all aspects of the packing - purchasing the supplies, packing your belongings and loading your boxes. Though it might sound a bit overwhelming, it really isn't, especially if you follow our basic truck rental tips.
Purchasing the supplies
There are plenty of places to buy your packing supplies. Just go online and you'll see several truck rental companies selling various supplies, as well as any needed moving equipment such as professional moving dollies. But if you're looking to save money on these items, ask your neighborhood markets if you can have some of their heavy-duty boxes before they break them down. Liquor stores are another potential source for quality boxes.
Packing and loading up the truck rental
For the most part, you can pack your belongings into the truck without too much thought, as long as the box is sealed (just don't over pack the boxes, as they can rip from the weight). But there are a few items that you should pay special attention to. One of those items is plasma TV's. These types of televisions can easily be damaged during the move. That's why it's important to buy a specially designed box for "fragile" televisions from a truck rental company. The same goes for other fragile items such as find bone china. These items should be carefully placed in dish pack boxes that have separate surrogated sleeves.
And although most items can be packed onto to your truck rental, you won't be able to pack up firewood or plants if you're crossing most state lines. Check with your truck rental company for exact regulations.
Before you place any box into to the truck, make sure to tape up the flaps of the box since that secures its contents and makes for a more level surface to place other boxes on top. Whatever you do, stay away from using garbage bags to pack up your belongings. They can easily tear when loading them on the truck, even if they're heavy-duty.
