With a do-it-yourself move, you pay for the truck rental and that's about it. The self-service move and full-service move are much more expensive.
Do-it-yourself move
The do-it-yourself move is basically what it sounds like - you move your belongings by yourself. You rent and drive the truck rental and you pack your own boxes and load and unload the truck. The biggest plus of this arrangement is savings that you'll experience. Instead of paying up to thousands of dollars for a move, you'll only pay the daily fee on the truck rental, plus any insurance charges that you choose. And if you're worried about packing, unpacking, loading and unloading the truck rental, ask friends and family to pitch in when possible.
Self-service move
The self-service move is the next step up from a do-it-yourself move. With this type of move, you pack, unpack, load and unload your belongings into the truck rental. The only difference with this scenario is that you don't drive the truck, but you do pay for the truck rental. You'll pay more for a self-service move than a do-it-yourself move since you'll need to pay for the driver's services. But it's still a good option if you want to save money since you'll be doing most of the work by yourself. Again, if you choose this method, ask friends and family to help you with the labor-intensive part of the move.
Full-service move
Like its name suggests, this type of move includes the full-service treatment. The moving company comes in and packs, loads, unloads and even unpacks (if you pay for that service) your belongings. It also includes the truck rental and the driver. When choosing this type of move, just realize that you'll be paying for the service. If you have limited time to pack and would rather not load and unload your belongings, this might be your best choice (as long as the higher charges don't scare you off).
