Assessing the physical layout of your properties is vital before driving your truck rental home. Such factors as clearance and parking availability need to be evaluated prior to renting the truck.
When renting a truck rental for your move, you'll need to assess the overall environment in both your old and new places before you drive the truck rental home. If you don't perform a full assessment of both properties, you might be in for a big surprise, which can postpone your move if the conditions are not right. To prevent that from occurring, we've listed some points that should be evaluated prior to driving the vehicle home.
Clearance issues
Find out if the truck rental will be able to park close enough to your old and new property. Otherwise, you'll find yourself carrying boxes further than you think. For instance, does your old property have a wide enough driveway for the truck rental to use? If not, is there street parking that's close enough to your place? What about if your new place has underground parking? Is the truck rental's height low enough to assure clearance? If not, is there a viable parking alternative that's close enough to your new apartment? If you're unsure of these answers, you might actually need to inspect your new property's accessibility issues.
Parking
If it turns out that you do need to park the truck rental on the street, it's not enough to find out if there is actual parking that's close enough to both properties. You'll need to know if the parking is restricted for both times and days. For example, if your new place has parking available on the street only on weekends, don't plan a move for the weekdays. If there's parking only from 8 am until 6 pm at your new place, make sure that you'll be able to unload the truck rental by that hour; otherwise, you'll need to start your move earlier in the day.
But even if you thoroughly investigate and plan your move around any parking restrictions, there still might be a problem if street parking is full. What happens, let's say, if you drive your truck rental up to your new property only to find that all the parking spots on the street are taken? To prevent this situation from happening, park your car in a spot close enough to your new place on the day before the move if possible, or place cones in the street to reserve a spot.
